Girls Soccer:

Goat come from behind for non-conference win

The Goats traveled up the Methow on a beautiful Saturday morning to compete against the Liberty Bell Mountain Lions. The Goats felt confident going into this match that they could come out with a victory. From the first whistle the Goats were putting pressure on the mountain lion’s defense.

Unfortunately, in a quick counterattack the mountain lions were able to get a goal on the Goats to lead the game early into the match. The Goats wouldn’t back down and would soon tie the game up with So. Denali Corrigan sending a ball forward to So. Brianna Mercado, who took a few quick touches and noticed the mountain lion’s goalkeeper high off her line. She quickly released the ball and found the back of the net.

With the Goats even more determined now they continued to put pressure on the defense. It would then be Sr. Jimena Oregon who would find the feet of SO. Brianna Mercado who would again find the back of the nets for the Goats. Giving them come from behind lead.

At half time, the Goats discussion was on how they would continue to press the mountain lion’s goal while still defending as a unit. With play going back and forth Jr. Natalia Granados was subbed back in after playing a significant number of minutes as an outside midfielder. She was placed as the attacking center mid and was told to attack the ball and strike it hard. She did just that, in the 65th minute of play with a pass from Mercado, Granados would send a well struck ball past the goalkeeper securing the 3-1 victory for the Goats.

The Goats will be back in action at home this Tuesday in both Varsity and JV action as they play the Bridgeport Mustangs. Come out and support your Goats!
