The Chelan Goats hosted half of the District 5 1A Volleyball bracket on Saturday — and they did not disappoint.
As the No. 1 seed, Chelan opened the day against the No. 8 seed Royal Knights. The Goats were dominant from start to finish, taking care of business in straight sets: 25-7, 25-13, 25-12. The win advanced Chelan into the semifinals, where a familiar CTL opponent was waiting — the No. 4 seed Omak Pioneers.
Omak had just come off a five-set battle against the No. 5 seed Connell Eagles, but Chelan came out firing and showed they were fresh and ready. The Goats controlled the match from the opening serve and rolled to another three-set sweep: 25-12, 25-4, 25-14.
That semifinal victory not only propelled Chelan into the District Championship match, but officially secured their spot in the WIAA State Tournament.
Next up — the District 5 title match will be a rematch from last year. Chelan will travel to Wenatchee High School on Saturday at 5pm to face the Cashmere Bulldogs. Both the Goats and Bulldogs have already earned their way to State, but bragging rights and hardware are on the line.
Chelan swept Cashmere earlier this season at home — but with the championship stage set and both teams playing for pride — fans should expect a highly competitive and exciting matchup.
Go Goats!
