Goats Soccer split with top-ranked Kodiaks

The Goats traveled to Leavenworth on Tuesday afternoon for a CTL matchup vs. the top-ranked Kodiaks. The Kodiaks are currently ranked 9th in the state and have been ranked up to 6th. Knowing the caliber of the Kodiaks, the Goats knew they would be in for a tough matchup. From the start, the Goats came out ready to battle. the Kodiaks found the back of the net early in the first half. The Goats would not let down and would keep their heads high and continue to put pressure on the Kodiaks’ defensive line. At the end of the first half, the Goats were down 2-0, but they knew the game wasn’t over; they still had 40 more minutes to try and pull through.

The Goats stayed tough the entire second half. Unfortunately, the Kodiaks were able to seal the game with their 3rd and final goal against the Goats. The entire Goats lineup played their hearts out and are really stepping up here at the end of the regular season. Sr. Avari Barker in Goal tallied 19 phenomenal saves for the Goats. With her defensive line in front of her, holding off even more opportunities. The 3 sophomores, Denali Corrigan, Reeghan Evans, and Elizabeth Hutchinson, along with the one senior defender, Leilani Avila, showed a strong performance moving and communicating together as a unit.

JV:

The Junior Varsity was able to get a full 80-minute game in with the Cascade Kodiaks. The Kodiaks have lights on their field and had the Junior Varsity play at 4 pm with the Varsity following under the lights at 6 pm. With a few girls out, the JV had 11 players +1 swing player for 1 half of the game. With only one sub for the first half of play, the Goats were bound to get tired. The Kodiaks had large numbers, with over 40 girls who turned out this year in their program, and they were able to sub continuously.

In the 36th minute of play, the Kodiaks would find the back of the net to give them the 1-0 lead going into half. Going into the second half of play, the JV Goats, with no subs, stepped up their play. In the 59th minute of play, Fr. Kloe West would make it a tie game at 1 apiece. Three minutes later, Fr. Keyma Castro would get the go-ahead goal in the 62nd minute of play. To seal the deal in the 67th minute Fr. Defender Henley Gardner would send a ball forward, and Fr. Kloe West would run onto the ball and lace it into the back of the net. Giving the Goats the 3-1 victory over the Kodiaks.

The Goats will be on the road again this Thursday as they travel to Quincy to take on the Jacks. This will be another tough opponent for the Goats as the Jacks are a top ranked 2A team.

Post Game Write-Up: Chelan Volleyball Claims 7th Straight CTL League Title

The Chelan Lady Goats continued their reign of dominance Tuesday night, sweeping the Omak Pioneers in straight sets (25-17, 25-16, 25-15) to claim their 7th consecutive Caribou Trail League Championship.

Chelan’s offensive attack was once again led by Brynn H with an incredible 23 kills and 14 digs, showcasing her all-around impact on the court. Marley W added 7 kills, 6 digs, and 1 ace, while Brooklyn F orchestrated the offense with 34 assists, also contributing 4 digs and an ace. Alison H, Esther P, Gracelyn R, and Faryn H each added key kills to balance the attack, while Gracie G provided strong defense and serving presence with 5 aces and 4 digs.

The Goats’ consistent play at the net and tough serving proved too much for the Pioneers, as Chelan controlled the tempo from start to finish.

After the match, the night turned special as Chelan celebrated its five seniors, honoring their leadership, commitment, and legacy within the program.

“We had an amazing night celebrating the 5 seniors in our program tonight,” said head coach Abby Lewellen. “Collectively, they have all contributed to creating an incredibly successful program because of the amazing teammates and people that they are. Each one in their own way has impacted this program for the better, and more than anything I was happy to be able to recognize and celebrate each one of them for that.”

Next up: The Goats will look to carry their momentum into Okanogan as they head North to take on the Bulldogs in a non league match up Thursday.
