The Chelan Goats battled at the District 5 1A State Qualifying Meet Friday in Cashmere, with the top three in each event earning trips to state — and several Goats rose to the occasion.
Leading the way was senior Holden Alteio, who punched his ticket to state with a District title in the 400m, winning in a personal best 50.93. Alteio also placed 4th in the 200m and anchored the boys 4×400 relay team of Austin Zimmer, Bryce Ware, Noah Kanehen, and Alteio to a 2nd place finish and a state berth in 3:28.94.
On the girls side, Indy Fielding had an outstanding meet, qualifying for state in both the 800m and 1600m. The junior took 3rd in the 800 with a PR of 2:23.72 and followed it up with another 3rd place finish in the 1600 in a PR of 5:14.10.
In the throws, Boston Brown secured a state spot in discus with a huge PR toss of 146-0, finishing 3rd overall. Cesar Padilla added strong performances in both throws, placing 5th in shot put and 5th in discus, while Levi Kanehen earned 7th in shot put and 8th in discus.
Other notable boys performances included Noah Kanehen taking 5th in the 400 and 6th in javelin, Fernando Saucedo placing 7th in the 1600, Jonah Simmons finishing 10th in the 3200 with a PR, and Bryce Ware clearing 5-4 in high jump.
