Goats Outlast Eagles

The Chelan Goats kept their season alive Tuesday night with a hard-fought 71–65 victory over the Connell Eagles in a loser-out, winner-moves-on matchup at the District 5 Tournament. As the tournament’s three seed, the Goats were tested early by the fifth-seeded Eagles, clinging to a narrow 15–14 lead after the opening quarter.

Chelan found its rhythm in the second period, turning defensive pressure and efficient offense into a double-digit advantage. The Goats outscored Connell 20–10 in the quarter to take a 35–24 lead into halftime. Connell responded after the break, battling back to tighten the contest, but Chelan maintained its composure and carried a 52–43 edge into the final frame.

In the fourth quarter, the Eagles made one last push, but the Goats answered with key baskets and strong ball control to secure the win. Chelan’s offensive attack was powered by Tev Uttech, who delivered a dominant 31-point performance. Luca Faletto provided a major boost with 25 points of his own, while freshman Anthony Armenta chipped in 8 valuable points.

Ball security and defensive discipline proved decisive. The Goats committed just five turnovers on the night, while forcing 16 Connell miscues — a difference that played a critical role in the outcome.

With the victory, Chelan advances and will take on the winner of Cashmere and Wapato here at CHS on Thursday at 6pm.
