In a highly anticipated State Semifinal matchup, the Chelan Goats squared off once again with their District 5 rival—the Cashmere Bulldogs. Having defeated Cashmere twice earlier this season (3-0, 3-1), Chelan knew the Bulldogs would come prepared for a third battle. And they did.
In one of the most intense matches of the season, the Goats outlasted Cashmere in a five-set showdown:
22-25, 25-16, 25-20, 22-25, 15-9.
Cashmere came out swinging, taking the opening set and pushing Chelan deeper than they’d been tested all year. But the Goats responded with poise, powerful swings, and timely defensive plays. After splitting the first four sets, Chelan surged in the fifth, finishing the match 15-9 to secure their spot in the WIAA 1A State Championship.
With the victory, the Goats advance to tonight’s title match at 6:15 PM, where they will compete for their sixth consecutive state championship—a historic milestone never before achieved in Washington 1A volleyball. Mead High School previously won five straight titles in a different classification, but Chelan now stands one win away from setting a new standard.
The championship opponent: They will face the Meridian Trojans, a team Chelan swept 3-0 earlier this season on the road. But with a state title on the line, the Goats know they’ll need their very best.
