The Chelan Mountain Goats golf team wrapped up an outstanding showing at the 1A State Golf Tournament with multiple athletes making their mark on the state stage and closing out another memorable season for Chelan golf.
On the girls side, both 8th grader Hallie Clinton and freshman Sydney Weston qualified for day two after strong opening rounds against some of the best competition in the state. Hallie battled through the pressure of her first state tournament appearance to finish tied for 18th overall with a two-day total of 181. As just an 8th grader competing at the high school level, Hallie’s performance marks an incredible start to her Chelan golf career and gives the Mountain Goats plenty to be excited about for years to come.
Freshman Sydney Weston also put together a tremendous tournament, finishing tied for 23rd overall with a combined score of 185. Making the cut and advancing to the second day of the state tournament as a freshman is a major accomplishment and speaks to the hard work and growth Sydney showed throughout the season. With both Hallie and Sydney returning, the future of Chelan girls golf is incredibly bright.
On the boys side, 8th grader Connor Dragoo narrowly missed advancing to the second day after carding a season-best 85 during his opening round. Connor finished just three strokes shy of the cut line while competing in his first state tournament appearance. His strong finish to the season showed tremendous composure and potential as one of the youngest competitors in the field.
Senior Carson Clinton closed out his Chelan career in unforgettable fashion, capturing his second 1A State Championship and cementing his legacy as one of the top golfers in school history. After opening the tournament with a spectacular 5-under-par 67 on day one, Carson followed it up with another outstanding round, shooting a 4-under-par 68 on day two. His two-day total left him tied for first with Christian Harlo of Kings Way Christian, forcing a playoff to determine the state champion.
With the championship on the line, Carson once again delivered under pressure, winning the playoff and claiming the state title for the second time in his career. Carson’s consistency, leadership, and dominance throughout his Chelan career have set a tremendous standard for the program and provided an incredible example for the younger golfers coming up through the program.
Along with the individual success on the course, the Chelan boys golf team also earned the 1A Academic State Championship with an impressive cumulative team GPA of 3.801, showcasing the commitment and excellence these student-athletes demonstrate both in competition and in the classroom.
A huge thank you also goes out to Chelan golf coaches Brooke Sanders and Tido Nunez, along with the many volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to the program throughout the season. The success of Chelan golf this year is largly because of their commitment to helping these student-athletes grow both on and off the course. From early season practices to long tournament days, their encouragement, knowledge, and passion for Chelan golf helped create an unforgettable season for the Mountain Goats.
Congratulations to all four Mountain Goats on an incredible state tournament and an outstanding season representing Chelan High School!
