Tuesday 3/31 Athletics Recap

Baseball:

Tanner Orestad collected three hits in three at bats, as Chelan Varsity Mountain Goats defeated Cascade 17-1 on Tuesday. Orestad doubled in the second inning, doubled in the fifth inning, and singled in the first inning.

Chelan Varsity Mountain Goats got on the board in the top of the first inning after Cascade committed an error, and Maddoc Finch singled to the left side of the infield, each scoring one run.

Chelan Varsity Mountain Goats scored six runs on three hits in the top of the second inning. Jensen Huewe grounded out, scoring one run, Orestad doubled, scoring one run, Henry Miller doubled, scoring one run, Finch singled, scoring two runs, and Rowan Macnamara hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.

Chelan Varsity Mountain Goats scored seven runs on two hits in the top of the third inning. Miller hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Finch singled, scoring two runs, Beau Fricke singled, scoring one run, Carson Morgan drew a walk, scoring one run, Orestad was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, and Spencer Richardson drew a walk, scoring one run.

Braxton Boyd earned the win for Chelan Varsity Mountain Goats. The hurler gave up one hit and one run (zero earned) over two innings, striking out four and walking none. Teddy took the loss for Cascade. The starting pitcher went two and two-thirds innings, surrendering 15 runs (four earned) on eight hits, striking out none and walking four. Finch, Macnamara, and Richardson each came on in relief for Chelan Varsity Mountain Goats and shutdown Cascade.

Chelan Varsity Mountain Goats collected 10 hits in the game. Finch provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Chelan Varsity Mountain Goats with five runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 3-for-4 on the day. Finch and Orestad each collected three hits for Chelan Varsity Mountain Goats. Richardson collected two hits for Chelan Varsity Mountain Goats in three at bats. Macnamara paced Chelan Varsity Mountain Goats with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting eight walks for the game. Orestad and Richardson each stole multiple bases for Chelan Varsity Mountain Goats. Chelan Varsity Mountain Goats stole seven bases in the game.

Micah went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead Cascade in hits. Cascade turned one double play in the game.

Chelan Varsity Mountain Goats play at home on Friday against Kiona-Benton in their next game.

Boys Soccer:

The Chelan Goats soccer team delivered a dominant performance in a non-league matchup against the Omak Pioneers, cruising to a 4-0 victory.

Chelan wasted no time getting on the board, as Sebastian Cisneros struck early with a goal in the 6th minute to give the Goats a 1-0 lead. Just three minutes later, Cisneros found the back of the net again, doubling the advantage and putting Chelan firmly in control at 2-0.

After taking that lead into halftime, the Goats continued to apply pressure in the second half. Josue Garcia extended the lead in the 52nd minute with a well-placed finish, making it 3-0. Edwuin Avila capped off the scoring in the 65th minute, sealing the 4-0 shutout victory.

Chelan’s defense was equally impressive, keeping Omak off the scoreboard and maintaining control throughout the match.

Next up, the Goats will face the Everett Seagulls in a rescheduled contest after a late-March snowstorm postponed the original matchup.

Track:

The Chelan High School track and field team turned in a strong all-around performance at the Cashmere Non-League Meet, highlighted by multiple event wins, podium finishes, and a number of personal bests.

On the boys side, Holden Alteio led the way with an impressive double performance, winning the 400 meters in a season-best 52.04 and adding a 4th place finish in the 200 meters. The Goats also saw a strong showing in the 800 meters, where Noah Kanehen placed 2nd with a personal-best 2:14.59.

In the distance events, Fernando Saucedo took 5th in the 1600 meters, while Jonah Simmons earned a podium finish in the 3200 meters, placing 3rd. The field events were another bright spot for Chelan, as Manny Cazarez finished 3rd in the shot put, and Cesar Padilla placed 4th in discus while also taking 7th in shot put. Levi Kanehen contributed with a 6th place finish in shot put and 7th in discus.

Chelan’s throwers continued to shine in the javelin, where Noah Kanehen placed 3rd with a strong mark of 139-7, and Levi Kanehen added a 9th place finish. In the jumps, Bryce Ware cleared 5-4 to take 6th in the high jump, while Zimri Kelling placed 7th in the triple jump.

On the girls side, Indy Fielding had a standout performance, winning the 400 meters in 1:05.63. The Goats also saw a strong effort in the 1600 meters, where Abigail Ludwig placed 2nd.

Chelan’s throwers dominated the girls competition, led by Sarah Burdick, who captured first place in both the discus (75-4) and javelin (95-9) while also finishing 3rd in shot put. Jordyan Hardwick and Natalie Coy added to the success in javelin, placing 2nd and 3rd respectively, while Ashley Hernandez finished 5th in shot put and 7th in javelin.

On the track, Lydia Ware placed 4th in the 800 meters, and Charlotte Ensminger added a 6th place finish in the 400 meters. The girls relay teams also competed well, with the 4×200 team placing 3rd and the 4×400 team finishing 2nd.

Overall, it was a well-rounded meet for the Goats, with athletes across all event groups contributing strong performances as Chelan continues to build momentum early in the season.
